My
Story
Hi I’m Gill, and I specialise in creating animal portraits in oil and acrylic paints, charcoals and pencil.
For as long as I can remember I’ve sketched people and animals — first in monochrome and later discovering the joy of colour, through paint - though I’m always happy to return to drawing.
I’ve followed a wonderfully winding career path — from hairdressing and chalet life to the civil service, travel, property and corporate marketing! It eventually became clear that creating art has been the one true constant through it all - bringing me calm, joy and a sense of purpose in a crazy world.
Today, I bring my two passions together through expressive animal portraiture, focused on character, emotion and the relationship between subject and viewer.
I’m not aiming for ‘photo-realism’ in my art - of course I want to achieve a likeness, but it’s important to also capture some of the personality and character of my subjects.
I currently live in Sussex with my husband and two cats, and plan to add a dog to the mix in the not-too-distant future. I’m building a creative life rooted in kindness, authenticity and doing what feels meaningful and right.
I paint a variety of animals, which I offer as fine art prints on paper or canvas, as well as commissioned original artwork. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in my shop then just drop me a line — I’d love to hear your ideas.
